Fathers play a unique role in the lives of our children, and provide the foundation for the healthy and social development of our families; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Healthy and socially developed children and families are vital to the interest and future of Oregon; and |
| WHEREAS: |
It is important to give appropriate recognition to fathers for the unique and valuable role that they play in the day-to-day lives of children, families and society; and |
| WHEREAS: |
It is appropriate to honor all fathers, both past and present on Fathers Day, and encourage future fathers to be mindful of the importance of their role in society. |

I, John A. Kitzhaber, Governor of the State of Oregon, hereby proclaim June 21-27, 1998 to be |

in Oregon and encourage all citizens to join in this observance.
