it's all upstream from here

it's all upstream from here

one of a series of stamp/collage meditations on the fate of the pacific salmon

original is 9"x12", collaged on black cardstock and crudely framed with a border of hand-carved "one way" signs on quarter-inch foam-core. this piece makes heavy use of resist stamping with clear and metallic embossing powders; the frame was embellished with gold rub 'n'buff. the primary fish was stamped in black on washi paper, clear embossed and then stamped again in blue, slightly offset, and embossed again. The legend "it's all upstream from here" was stamped on a piece of gold spray-painted cardboard and clear embossed. it's hard to see in this scan, but the background includes many smaller versions of the fish, "swimming" in the opposite direction.
stamp credits: large and small salmon - fred b. mullett; bubbles - unknown; spiral - hero arts.
waves and one-way sign are hand-carved on mars-staedtler drafting erasers.
