What kind of bear can be white, cinnamon, brown or blue gray? There’s just one answer, and it may surprise you: It’s the black bear. Despite its name, black bears come in a virtual bear rainbow of colors, from snowy white like their polar bear cousins to the deep rich black that we associate with the creatures.
That’s just one of the many surprising facts to be uncovered in the new book, “Discovering Black Bears,” the latest addition to the Discovering Nature Library series, Dog-Eared Publications. Two of the books’ authors, Margaret Anderson and Karen Stephenson, are a mother and daughter from Corvallis.
