"Tampa: Memories of Calm"

16" x 20", framed, handmade wool felt using watercolor inlay with the felting needle.  (Watercolor inlay is a combination of wet and dry felting.)

Price: $600

When I knew that I was going to be teaching at the Handweaver's Guild of America conference in Tampa, Florida, June 2008, I decided to make a piece based on some memories that I had of Tampa.  When I was 9 and 10, my family lived in Tampa at MacDill Air Force Base.  My friends and I would take hibiscus flowers off the bushes and turn them upside down to create the skirts of our "fairy" dolls.  I also spent many hours lying on the grass, looking up at the clouds and the ever changing sky through the frame of the palm trees in our front yard.  The sunset in this piece is one of the skies I remember.
